Dr Siobhan Lamb provides support in four main categories:
A. Support to parents and children throughout the diagnostic journey
We understand that receiving a neurodevelopmental diagnosis can feel overwhelming and isolating. Our mission is to transform this experience into one of empowerment and understanding. We’re committed to:
1. Providing clear, accessible information
2. Offering emotional support and validation
3. Celebrating neurodiversity and individual strengths
4. Fostering a positive, identity-affirming perspective
Our neuro-affirming approach is a trauma-informed, relational framework where building authentic relationships is paramount and helps families embrace their unique neurotypes, turning diagnosis into a pathway for growth, self-discovery, and connection.
B. Parent Coaching
Parenting relies on forging effective relationships between parents and their children. This is often difficult when neither the parent nor the child has a deep understanding of their neurology or way of thinking. We weren’t given a manual on the day they were born!
Parent Coaching is a collaboration between parents and Siobhan Lamb to identify areas of difficulty (and tension) in the parenting experience, and then develop new skills and strategies to support the relationship, (i.e. support both the parent and child).
Strategies to explore with parents when raising neurodivergent children:
- An introduction to Neurodiversity for parents and carers
- Understanding common neurodivergent needs such as executive functioning, self-identity and sensory needs
- Looking at a child’s development (in collaboration with their support team) and pitching the support at this level
- Helping parents to understand that their child’s developmental needs are not necessarily chronological
- Understanding of how neurodivergence influences observable behaviours
- Learning to “choose your battles”
- Identifying environments and techniques that have worked and those that have sapped energy then using environmental modifications to access learning/education
- Evidence-based behaviour management strategies that are specific for neurodivergent children
- Co-regulation techniques
- Using neuro-affirming language and confirming their communication style – this is done on two levels with one being unspoken since I have the same communication style
- Enabling your neurodivergent children to feel understood and embraced
- Creating home environments that enable your child to thrive
- Understanding and embracing your twice-exceptional children
- Understanding and embracing your children with ADHD
- Embracing and supporting your autistic child
- Navigating puberty with your autistic teenager
- Working with schools to enable your neurodivergent child to thrive
- Understanding the link between executive functioning and emotional regulation in a neurodivergent child
C. Executive Functioning Coaching for Students
Unlock Your Potential with Executive Functioning Coaching
At Developmental Paediatrics, we understand that high school can be a challenging time for neurodivergent students. Our Executive Functioning Coaching is designed to equip students with essential skills that foster academic success and self-confidence. Discover the benefits of our tailored coaching program:
Boost Academic Performance
Our coaching helps students enhance their organizational and time management abilities. By learning how to prioritize tasks, create effective schedules, and meet deadlines, students can significantly improve their grades and academic achievements.
Enhance Focus and Self-Regulation
Students develop better self-regulation skills, leading to improved focus and attention in the classroom. This results in active participation, better retention of information, and a more enriching learning experience.
Build Confidence and Self-Esteem
As students master their executive functioning skills, they often experience a noticeable boost in confidence and self-esteem. Accomplishing tasks and achieving academic goals can transform their self-image, empowering them to tackle new challenges.
Manage Stress Effectively
Our coaching teaches effective strategies for managing time and workload, reducing stress and anxiety. By breaking down large projects into manageable tasks and planning ahead, students can avoid last-minute rushes and the stress that comes with them.
