Dr James Zhu

Dr. James Zhu (he/him) is a dedicated psychiatrist who graduated from the University of Newcastle, where an early interest in psychiatry as a medical student set the foundation for a rewarding career working in child and adolescent health.
Dr. Zhu has worked extensively with complex family systems, including in Out of Home Care, as well as with diverse community mental health teams across Sydney. These experiences have given Dr. Zhu an appreciation for a complex array of issues, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and complex neurodevelopmental conditions. This background has shaped Dr. Zhu’s appreciation for a holistic, individualised approach that draws on the strengths of a multidisciplinary team. Committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care, Dr. Zhu collaborates closely with each patient to foster resilience and a path toward recovery and well-being.
Additionally, Dr. Zhu brings valuable experience from roles at The Children’s Hospital Westmead Eating Disorders Team and the Peter Beumont Eating Disorders Service. He has also contributed to publications such as the Cochrane Review and Frontiers in Psychiatry, supporting knowledge development in the field.
